Removal Van Camden Health and Safety Policy
Removal Van Camden is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for all employees, contractors, customers and members of the public who may be affected by our removal and delivery activities. We recognise our responsibilities under relevant health and safety legislation and best practice guidance, and we work proactively to prevent accidents, injuries and work-related ill health in all areas of our operations.
Policy Aims
The aims of this Health and Safety Policy are to:
Promote a positive health and safety culture throughout our removal operations. Prevent accidents, injuries and damage to property arising from our work. Identify, assess and effectively control risks associated with moving, lifting, driving and handling goods. Provide safe systems of work, suitable equipment and appropriate training. Continuously improve our health and safety performance through monitoring, review and staff engagement.
Management Responsibilities
Senior management at Removal Van Camden holds overall responsibility for the implementation and maintenance of this Health and Safety Policy. Management will:
Ensure that health and safety considerations are integrated into planning and decision-making. Provide resources, equipment and time necessary to implement safe working practices. Conduct and regularly review risk assessments covering all key activities, including loading, unloading, driving, manual handling and storage. Ensure vehicles, lifting aids and other work equipment are maintained in a safe and roadworthy condition. Establish clear procedures for reporting, investigating and responding to accidents, incidents and near misses. Review this policy periodically and revise it as necessary in light of changes in legislation, operations or risk.
Employee Responsibilities
All employees and contractors working for Removal Van Camden share responsibility for maintaining high standards of health and safety. Every member of the team is required to:
Take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions. Follow all safety instructions, procedures and training provided. Use equipment, vehicles and protective gear correctly and report defects or concerns immediately. Refrain from using any equipment or carrying out tasks for which they have not been trained or authorised. Report incidents, near misses, hazards and unsafe conditions to their supervisor without delay. Cooperate fully with accident investigations and health and safety initiatives.
Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work
We carry out risk assessments for all significant hazards associated with our removals service, including manual handling of furniture and boxes, operation of vehicles, use of lifting equipment, work at height during loading, and handling of fragile or high-value items. Based on these assessments, we develop and implement safe systems of work that are communicated clearly to employees.
Risk assessments are reviewed on a regular basis and whenever there are changes in work practices, new equipment is introduced, or a significant incident occurs. Employees are encouraged to contribute to the identification of hazards and to suggest practical improvements to safety arrangements when undertaking removal work at residential and business premises.
Training and Competence
Removal Van Camden recognises that proper training is essential to safe operations. We ensure that all staff receive appropriate induction and role-specific training, including:
Manual handling techniques for lifting, carrying and team handling of heavy or bulky items. Safe use of removal equipment such as trolleys, straps, ramps and lifting devices. Defensive driving, safe loading of vehicles and securing of loads. Awareness of site-specific risks when working at customer locations. Emergency procedures, incident reporting and first-aid awareness.
Training needs are reviewed regularly, and refresher training is provided where necessary to maintain competence and address new or emerging risks.
Vehicles, Equipment and Work Environment
All vehicles and equipment used by Removal Van Camden are inspected and maintained to ensure they are safe and fit for purpose. This includes regular checks of brakes, lights, tyres, load-securing points, lifting aids, and any other tools used in the course of removals.
We ensure that loads are properly planned, evenly distributed and adequately secured before vehicles are driven. Drivers are instructed not to exceed vehicle weight limits and to adhere to all traffic laws and regulations. Work environments, whether at our operational bases or at customer premises, are assessed for hazards such as restricted access, trip risks, awkward staircases, poor lighting and adverse weather. Appropriate measures are taken, including the use of suitable equipment, additional manpower or revised methods, to complete the job safely.
Manual Handling and Personal Safety
Manual handling activities are a core part of our business and are managed with particular care. Staff are trained to avoid unnecessary lifting, to use correct posture and technique, and to make full use of handling aids. Team lifting is used for heavy, large or awkward items, and employees are empowered to stop and request assistance whenever they feel a task cannot be completed safely.
Where reasonably practicable, we may disassemble large items to reduce manual handling risks. Staff are expected to wear appropriate clothing and footwear that provide stability and protection while moving items through properties, stairwells and external paths.
Consultation, Communication and Monitoring
Removal Van Camden consults with employees on health and safety matters through regular meetings, briefings and informal discussions. Staff are encouraged to raise concerns, report hazards and make suggestions for improving safety in day-to-day removal activities.
We monitor our performance using incident reports, near-miss data, inspection findings and feedback from employees and customers. This information is used to identify trends, implement corrective actions and support continuous improvement in our health and safety standards.
Accidents, Incidents and Emergency Procedures
All accidents, injuries, dangerous occurrences and near misses must be reported as soon as practicable. Management will investigate these events to determine root causes and implement measures to prevent recurrence. Records are kept in accordance with legal requirements and internal procedures.
Employees are briefed on emergency procedures, including responding to vehicle accidents, property damage, fire or serious injury at customer sites or during transit. First-aid provisions are maintained, and staff know how to seek medical assistance when required.
Policy Review
This Health and Safety Policy is reviewed at regular intervals and whenever there are significant changes in our business operations or applicable regulations. Updated versions are communicated to all employees so that everyone involved in our removals service understands their responsibilities and the standards expected of them.
By working together and following this policy, Removal Van Camden aims to deliver a reliable removal service while safeguarding the health, safety and welfare of all those involved.
